1. How much can I earn as a Jim’s Mowing Franchisee?
Jim’s Mowing franchises generate between $150K and $2.5M in revenue, with 30–50% profit margins depending on the size of their operation. Smaller franchise operations have higher margins due to lower overhead, while larger operations have smaller margins (but benefit greatly from scale).
Success depends on the franchisee’s goals for their business and drive for growth, not location. Some franchisees build smaller businesses for lifestyle flexibility; others scale up to manage high-revenue operations with multiple vehicles and numerous employees. One of the best things about being a Jim’s Mowing Franchisee is that you build the business that best supports your financial and lifestyle goals, with no pressure to grow your business any larger than it needs to be to meet those goals – and thanks to our flat monthly fee (regardless of franchise size), we support all growth strategies equally, as there is no incentive for us to push for franchise growth.
2. How much do I need to start?
The purchase of a Jim’s Mowing Franchise is less than the price of a new compact car. For $35,000.00 (until August 31, 2025) you can purchase a Jim’s Mowing franchise including access to the brand, advertising, digital marketing, systems, software, support and professional coaching. All you will need to purchase beyond that is a truck, trailer and equipment (all which can be leased to own with no money down). Uniforms and training program are your only 2 additional expenses – and are less than $5,000 in total.
3. How much lifestyle and business flexibility will I have?
Flexibility is a major reason our franchisees choose a Jim’s Mowing franchise. Many have left rigid careers in search of more control over their lifestyle and time. With a Jim’s Mowing Franchise, you set your own hours, choose the type of work you enjoy, and scale the business to fit your lifestyle priorities.
Whether you want to pick up your kids after school or take a month off in January or August, you have the freedom to build a business that works for you.
4. How much are the monthly franchise fees?
Jim’s Mowing monthly franchise fees are less than $900 per month, no matter how big your business gets. There’s also a $200 per month advertising fund contribution, which gives you access to a six-figure yearly shared marketing and advertising budget, including websites with 40,000+ visitors per year and social media and digital ad campaigns.
In addition, you can purchase only the leads you need for only $16 per lead (significantly less than industry lead generation fees of $40 to $100+ per lead), and once your business is established, you may not need many leads at all. So, after the first year or two, your main costs are just the flat monthly fees—simple, predictable, and scalable.
5. What percentage franchise fee do you charge?
Jim’s Mowing franchisees do not pay franchise fees that are a percentage of revenue. Our franchise fee is a fixed $865/month for 20 years (plus CPI), no matter how large your business grows. Unlike percentage fees, fixed fees let you build your business and lifestyle without pressure. Whether you earn $200K or $2M, we support your goals—big or small. And because fees are fixed, the larger you get, the smaller your fees.
6. Why are fixed franchise fees so important?
Fixed franchise fees are key because they create a cooperative relationship between franchisor and franchisee. Unlike typical percentage-based fees that cause other franchisors to always push their franchisees to grow revenue, fixed fees mean we earn the same no matter the franchisee’s size. This frees us to help franchisees build a business that fits their lifestyle goals no matter the size of their business – whether small for family time or large for growth—and we always fully support our franchisees goals.
7. Will I get enough work?
We receive over 10,000 to 12,000 new customer inquiries every year, a huge increase from 3,000 per year just a few years ago. In areas with multiple Jim’s Mowing franchises, demand exceeds supply. Our trailers act as moving billboards, and the more trailers on the road, the more leads we receive as visibility grows.
That being said, Franchisees still need to follow the system: get Google reviews, keep your trailer visible, deliver flyers, attend training, and stay engaged with the Jim’s Mowing franchise community. The support and teamwork among Jim’s Mowing franchisees is a big part of our success. So yes, there’s plenty of work if you put in the effort.
8. How do you generate business for your franchisees?
We’ve increased work leads for our franchisees from 3,000 to over 10,000 annually by building a strong brand with a large advertising fund, the visibility of over 150+ trailers on the road, earning over 1,000+ five-star Google reviews, and supporting our Jim’s Mowing franchisees with coaching and training to generate repeat and referral business. Success comes from following our proven system.
9. Do I need any experience?
You don’t need any prior lawn or landscaping experience to buy a Jim’s Mowing franchise. Jim’s Mowing franchisees come from all kinds of backgrounds—doctors, engineers, tradespeople, restaurant workers, and more. We provide thorough training: 35 hours of online training before signing, 5-7 days of field training, and 13 weeks of onboarding training with weekly support.
Ongoing training, development and franchise community support keep Jim’s Mowing franchisees up to date with industry best practices. The key to franchisee success is enthusiasm, optimism, a strong work ethic, and following the system – not prior industry experience.
10. How much training and support do you provide?
Training and coaching are the key to franchise success and what sets franchising apart from other businesses. Before signing for a franchise, franchisees complete 35 hours of online training, followed by 5–7 days of hands-on field training. Then, there’s a 13-week onboarding program with weekly support to teach best business practices.
Beyond that, ongoing coaching, social events, and professional development seminars and events keep Jim’s Mowing franchisees connected and growing. With this support, Jim’s Mowing franchisees become efficient, effective, and profitable faster, reducing the risk of failure common in new businesses.
11. What about the Winters?
In the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island , the winter period is only about 4 to 6 weeks, usually from late December to early February. Most Jim’s Mowing franchisees who do not take snow removal and ice control work, and/or commercial/strata winter landscape maintenance work are busy up to Christmas and then start again in February. Around 75% of our franchisees offer winter landscape maintenance services to strata and commercial clients, and/or snow removal and ice control, which can be a lucrative source of winter income. Jim’s Mowing Franchisees can choose to take work and build their winter schedules, or take winters off—they have full flexibility and the choice is theres.
In the Okanagan, winters are a little longer, so Jim’s Mowing Franchisees either do snow removal and ice control or build a bigger summer business to cover winter months.
Many Jim’s Mowing franchisees love to take time off in in August and January, it’s part of their lifestyle and work-life balance. By the second year, most franchisees generate more than enough income to comfortably take winters off if they chose.
12. Why not just open my own business?
Franchising gives you a 10-year head start compared to starting an independent business. Normally, an independent business takes years to build systems, support, operations manuals, employee handbooks, and a strong brand with pricing power (which requires very large investment in advertising – often times 5x to 10x the cost of franchise fees). This process also involves lots of lost time on errors and ommisions, dead-ends, u-turns, expenses, and risks.
With franchising, you get all those systems, training, support, and a strong brand from day one, saving time, money, and reducing risk and uncertainty. Instead of spending years and a big advertising budget to building a brand, you plug into a proven, ready-made business model with huge brand recognition and pricing power. This makes franchising a no-brainer for faster, and less risky, success.
13. How do the Territories work?
Each Jim’s Mowing franchisee receives a non-exclusive territory of around 800 homes, and has first right of refusal on all leads received within that territory. Franchisees may also join the queue for all available work leads outside their territory by setting a larger “take-work” area. There is no limit on take-work areas and how far franchisees can go for work. If two Jim’s Mowing franchisees have overlapping take-work areas, all leads are shared fairly.
There’s no cap on how many vehciles or employees a Jim’s Mowing franchisees can put on, or how big their take-work area can be – so each franchisee can grow their franchise as much as they like – with no limit on where they take work, how many vehicles they operate, or how many employees they hire. More Jim’s Mowing franchisees mean more exposure and more leads, helping the brand grow faster. Growth is based on common sense, making sure travel stays reasonable.
